WATCH: Bears WRs Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney training together in Florida

Following the conclusion of mandatory minicamp, Bears players have a six-week break ahead of training camp next month. But for some, the training doesn’t stop at the conclusion of the offseason program.

When it comes to Chicago’s wide receivers room, there’s a ton of depth but also plenty of questions. Aside from Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney, who thrived as a 1-2 punch last season, there are four roster spots up for grabs this offseason.

But even for the Bears’ top wideouts, the training hasn’t stopped. Robinson and Mooney are training together in Florida with fitness trainer Jeff Phillips of Goal Figure Fitness. Phillips shared video of Robinson and Mooney on Instagram, as pictured below on Twitter:

Robinson has been a pillar of consistency since joining the Bears back in 2018, and he’s coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with inconsistent quarterback play.

But a long-term extension continues to elude him as the two sides haven’t talked contract extension since last September. Chicago placed the franchise tag on Robinson earlier this offseason, ensuring his return for the 2021 season. The two sides have until July 15 to get an extension done before Robinson’s $18-million franchise tag goes into effect and he becomes a free agent in 2022.

Despite the lack of an extension, Robinson reported for minicamp and plans to report to training camp on time.

Meanwhile, Mooney is coming off an impressive rookie season, where he had 61 catches for 631 yards and four touchdowns. He proved to be a deep threat for the Bears, but his quarterbacks constantly overthrew him.

The former fifth-round pick quickly climbed the ranks as a rookie to lock down the No. 2 role behind Robinson as early as Week 2. There’s no doubt Mooney’s star is on the rise, and a breakout season could be on the way, especially with better quarterback play.
