AUGUSTA, Ga. — After three days of a four-day tournament, Tony Finau is eight strokes back of Hideki Matsuyama's lead. Things look pretty grim for Finau. Good thing, then, that he got a timely call from a guy who knows a thing or two about unlikely fourth-quarter comebacks.

Finau was waiting out a 77-minute rain delay in the Augusta National caddy HQ — it seems wrong to call it a "caddy shack" here — which is one of the few spots on the grounds where cell phones are permitted. Jimmy Dunne, a member of Augusta National with a list of celebrity contacts as long as a Finau drive, walked over to Finau, phone out.

"Somebody wants to talk to you," Dunne said.

Finau was stunned to see none other than Tom Brady on Facetime. Brady immediately set about giving Finau grief for stopping play for a little rain.

"In the NFL, when it rains, we don't stop," Brady said, laughing.

"Maybe we're not as tough as you guys," Finau replied.

Brady congratulated Finau on playing well so far and encouraged him to keep his foot on the gas. Brady's the latest entry into what's suddenly become a quarterback-heavy Masters storyline — Patrick Mahomes, Trevor Lawrence and Ryan Fitzpatrick were in attendance this week, and Tony Romo is a friend and mentor to Will Zalatoris, currently in second place.

Finau may be four strokes behind Zalatoris and eight behind Matsuyama, but he can at claim a QB pal with many more rings. One thing Brady didn't do, though: attempt to recruit Finau to come play in Tampa.

"He's got plenty of weapons over there," Finau smiled. "They're not going to need me."
