Texas basketball reaches out to former five-star center Kel’el Ware

Texas needs big men on its basketball roster for next season. Rodney Terry understands the assignment.

Rivals insider Keenan Womack shared that Texas has shown interest in bringing over big-time post presence Kel’el Ware from Oregon.

The Oregon center was once a five-star basketball recruit out of North Little Rock, Arkansas. Standing at 7 feet tall, he’s the type of player that could allow the Longhorns to close the height advantage gap that many teams had over Texas the last two seasons.

Ware is certainly a raw talent. The Little Rock product put up just 6.6 points per game to go with 4.1 rebounds. Even so, he could thrive with better surroundings.

Athletic guards Arterio Morris and Tyrese Hunter stand to gain from adding the big player. It’s fair to assume Ware will command attention, and if he doesn’t, Hunter and Morris could have easy assist opportunities around the basket. The addition would also allow for Dillon Mitchell, Brock Cunningham and Ron Holland to defend players who are around each player’s height.

Texas will look to hit the ground running on building another competitive team in 2023.
