Russell Wilson was mic’d up for what was likely his final start for Broncos
The Russell Wilson era with the Denver Broncos seems to be coming to an end. After much hype of Wilson’s nine-figure contract signing to the Broncos in the spring of 2022, Wilson was benched ahead of the final two games of the 2023 season, demoted to a backup role behind Jarrett Stidham.
In what might have been his final start for the Broncos, Wilson was mic’d up against the New England Patriots last week, leading his offense to a near-comeback in the fourth quarter.
The quarterback shared the mic’d up footage on his Twitter/X page on Friday:

The clip also shows Wilson encouraging his teammates through his trademark positivity. Wilson’s positivity became a lightning rod last season during Denver’s tumultuous 2022 campaign. However, although Wilson’s play has dramatically improved, it wasn’t enough to satisfy head coach Sean Payton.
Wilson’s two-year run with the Broncos followed what may be one of the worst trades in NFL history. With a $245 million contract, you expect a team to contend and compete for Super Bowls. Unfortunately for the Broncos and Wilson, those dreams are most likely over.
