Given how rocky the situation surrounding Patrik Laine’s contract negotiations with the Winnipeg Jets has been, other NHL teams are reportedly starting to check in with the Finnish star’s camp, hockey insider Pierre LeBrun said during TSN's 'Insider Trading' segment.

“ ... We’re told that teams over the past week have checked in with Patrik Laine’s camp, led by Michael Liut. And now, are they checking in because of a potential offer sheet? Or are they checking in because maybe they want to call Winnipeg and try and trade for Patrik Laine? I’m not saying either one is happening. I’m just saying that teams are getting curious about that situation.”

Let the Laine speculation unfold.

The Jets have not had the greatest offseason. In addition to having RFAs Laine and Kyle Connor still unsigned, the team must also wait on a decision from Dustin Byfuglien about his future in the NHL. Not to mention the loss of key defensemen such as Tyler Myers and Jacob Trouba, who also departed this summer.

TSN Insider Darren Dreger also added during the segment that the club is exploring trade options.

“The Jets are talking to teams about potential trades,” he claimed. “But with the Byfuglien situation still out there, it’s hard to do anything.”

With key RFAs such as Brayden Point and Mitch Marner already locked up and the season inching closer, the pressure is really on in Winnipeg.
