Reports: Former Notre Dame, NFL RB Cierre Wood charged in connection to death of child

Las Vegas police have arrested former Notre Dame and NFL running back Cierre Wood on charges connected to the death of a child, according to multiple reports.

ABC 57 reports that Wood, 28, and his 26-year-old girlfriend Amy Taylor are both facing abuse charges related to the death of Taylor’s 5-year-old daughter.

Fox 5 in Las Vegas reports that a coroner confirmed the death of the child.

Wood was being held Wednesday on $5,000 bail, according to the Clark County Detention Center.

Report: Wood facing 1st-degree child abuse charge

CBS 8 in Las Vegas reports that Wood is facing 1st-degree child abuse or neglect charges, citing jail records.

The child died in a Las Vegas hospital Tuesday night, prompting police to investigate, according to ABC 57. An autopsy is outstanding, according to the report.

Wood is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.

Wood starred at Notre Dame before limited NFL career

Wood played at Notre Dame from 2010 to 2013, tallying 2,447 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns over three seasons. He also tallied 52 catches for 384 yards and 2 touchdowns.

His junior year in 2011 saw him rush for 1,102 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Wood saw limited action with four NFL teams from 2013-15 as a member of the Houston Texans, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills. Woods saw just five carries in regular-season action as he spent much of his time in the NFL on practice squads.

He most recently played in the Canadian Football League.
