Report: Ducks have offered ‘massive’ contract extension to Mario Cristobal

On Friday morning, the official report that the University of Miami was going to try and hire head coach Mario Cristobal away from the Oregon Ducks came out.

Soon after, reports that the University of Oregon has offered a “massive” contract extension to their head coach in order to keep him around have now surfaced as well.

According to The Oregonian‘s James Crepea and John Canzano, Oregon has put a contract extension in front of Cristobal that is “in line with what we’ve seen this week,” Canzano reports.

That means big money if you are to take anything away from the massive contracts signed by both Lincoln Riley at USC and Brian Kelly at LSU. LSU is paying Kelly $95 million plus bonuses over 10 years. Riley’s deal at USC is believed to be in excess of $110 million.

It’s clear that the Ducks want to hang on to Cristobal, who is among the hottest names in college football, despite giving no indication that he plans to leave Eugene.

If the Ducks gave him a massive extension, it would be even harder to take off.
