Report: Chiefs to sign free agent OG Kyle Long
The Kansas City Chiefs have made yet another move in free agency, this time adding a player who visited the team after visiting another AFC West rivals.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former Chicago Bears OG Kyle Long, who recently came out of retirement, is set to sign with the Chiefs on a one-year deal worth up to $5 million.
Long stepped away from the game in 2020, taking the season off in order to focus on his body and recovery from previous injuries. He last played during the 2019 season, starting four games before being placed on injured reserve with a hip injury.

Long was drafted in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft and has NFL bloodlines. His father, Howie Long, is a Pro Football Hall of Famer after spending his career with the Chiefs’ rival Raiders.
Kyle started a total of 76 games across seven seasons with the Bears, earning three Pro Bowl selections and one Second-Team All-Pro selection. He’s played mostly at right guard during his career but did start one season at right tackle and earned a Pro Bowl selection for that year.
This is a low-risk high-reward type of signing for Kansas City. Obviously, having depth on the offensive line was a problem for the team last season and it culminated in Super Bowl LV. Long provides you with another veteran piece to plug in if injuries become a problem again.
