Report: Cain Velasquez allegedly shot at man accused of molesting a relative

More reported details have surfaced pertaining to the arrest of former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, which took place in San Jose, Calif. on Monday.

According to a report Tuesday from The San Jose Mercury-News, Velasquez’s booking for attempted murder came after he allegedly shot at a car of three individuals – one of whom had recently been accused of molesting a close relative of Velasquez’s. The report cites court documents and additional sources.

While the alleged victim of sexual abuse’s identity is being withheld due to their status as a minor, the accused man is Harry Eugene Goularte, 43, who lives in San Martin, Calif. at a home-daycare business run by his mother.

Goularte was arraigned Friday on one felony count of “a lewd and lascivious act with a child under the age of 14.” He was released despite objections from the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office.

The alleged shooting incident occurred three days later. The Mercury-News report mirrors tweets and comments put forth by Twitter user Fight Oracle and others, which stated Velasquez opened up fire on a car carrying Goularte but struck another individual. The individual hit was reportedly Goularte’s stepfather, who is expected to survive. The identity of the third individual is not known.

Velasquez, 39, is currently being held in Santa Clara County Main Jail without bail for attempted murder, with an arraignment scheduled for Wednesday at noon local time, per online records. There have been no announced charges at this time. At the time of publication, Velasquez’s representation has not responded to an MMA Junkie inquiry for comment on the arrest.

Online court records show Goularte is due back in court on April 13.
