PFF: Bills’ Stefon Diggs in NFL’s fourth-best WR

Stefon Diggs is one of the best receivers in the NFL. The Buffalo Bills know that and Pro Football Focus does too.

The football analytics outlet continued their position-by-position rankings this offseason for the NFL. The wideout list had a welcomed sight for Diggs and the Bills.

Overall, he clocked in as the fourth-best receiver in the league.

Here’s the breakdown:

Diggs is one of the best route-runners in the game, but he is also one of the league’s best at the catch point. Since joining Buffalo in 2020, Diggs ranks seventh or higher in separation rate against single coverage, contested-catch grade and grade versus man coverage.

An underrated aspect of his game is how good Diggs is when the play starts to break. There’s no quit — he finds a way to get open and gives quarterback Josh Allen an opportunity to make a play. Diggs’ 26 receptions on plays outside of the structure of the offense since 2020 are six more than any other pass-catcher in the NFL.

Diggs’ ranking begs one big question.

Who finished better? It’s good company.

The top-three wideouts in the NFL according to PFF are:

  • 3. DeAndre Hopkins (Cardinals)

  • 2. Cooper Kupp (Rams)

  • 1. Devante Adams (Raiders)

While Diggs is lower than this trio on PFF’s list, we’re splitting hairs a bit. All three are different types of receivers, so realistically, Diggs is likely the best at what he does.

Hopkins is a go up and get it deep threat.

Kupp works out of the slot.

Adams is a touchdown ace.

Diggs does great work on intermediate routes and gets open with ease. The most important aspect of this isn’t how it compares to these other receivers, rather, how it meshes with Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen.

That aspect appears to be working out well for the Bills…
