Parents of Dwayne Haskins won't attend Friday funeral, will hold weekend ceremony

The parents of deceased Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins will not attend his funeral service in Pittsburgh on Friday. Haskins' family released a statement explaining they have not met Haskins' wife, and do not want their first meeting to come at Haskins' funeral.

Haskins was hit by a vehicle and killed the morning of April 9. He was reportedly trying to cross the interstate to get gas for his car. Haskins was 24.

Haskins' parents said they will hold public memorials for Haskins in New Jersey and Maryland over the weekend.

Haskins was born in New Jersey and went to high school in Maryland.

Haskins and his wife, Kalabrya, were married in March 2021.

Dwayne Haskins memorial in Pittsburgh to occur Friday

Kalabrya announced Tuesday the details surrounding Haskins' memorial service in Pittsburgh.

The service will take place Friday. Haskins' "legacy will be honored with stories told from teammates, coaches, friends, family and loved ones," Kalabrya said in a statement.

Haskins will also receive a memorial service Saturday in Rockaway Township, New Jersey, Haskins' home town. A service will also be held Sunday in Potomac, Maryland, where Haskins played high school football. Haskins went on to play college football at Ohio State. Students at Ohio State erected a memorial to Haskins at Ohio Stadium.

Haskins was selected by the Washington Commanders with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft.
