Packers writer helps create perfect going away present for Corey Linsley

A clever idea from a credentialed member of the Green Bay Packers media helped create the perfect going away present for center Corey Linsley, who agreed to sign with the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday after seven seasons in Green Bay.

Andy Herman, of Packer Report and the Pack-a-Day Podcast, encouraged Packers fans to make a $63 donation – matching Linsley’s uniform number – to CASA of Brown County, a non-profit organization that the Linsley family has supported since 2017. Packers fans obliged.

Herman’s initial donation started an avalanche of $63 donations from across the country. According to NBC 26 in Green Bay, at least 80 different donations of $63 in the 12 hours after the tweet created $5,000 in funds for the organization.

CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, provides protection for abused and neglected children in the Green Bay community. Both Linsley and his wife, Anna, are trained advocates in the system.

“Just happy that there’s times social media can be used for good when it is so often used to divide,” Herman told Packers Wire. “I couldn’t think of a better way to support both a great cause and simultaneously say thank you to Corey and Anna Linsley for their time in Green Bay both on and off the field. I’m glad it took off and hope it continues to grow in support of an amazing cause.”

Linsley, a fifth-round pick of the Packers in 2014, played seven seasons in Green Bay. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2020, setting the stage for him becoming the NFL’s highest-paid center on a five-year deal with the Chargers.

The donations have meant the world to the Linsley family. Anna tweeted thanks to Herman for the encouragement on Tuesday:

Linsley was the Packers’ nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2020 in large part due to his work with CASA.
