NFL suspends Bears LB Danny Trevathan 2 games

A vicious helmet-to-helmet hit from the Chicago Bears’ Danny Trevathan will cost the linebacker a two-game suspension, the NFL announced on Saturday afternoon.

Trevathan leveled Green Bay Packers wideout Davante Adams on a play Thursday night, a hit that drew a 15-yard unnecessary roughness penalty but not an ejection.

The hit was widely condemned throughout the league and many expected some sort of a game suspension for Trevathan, who doesn’t have a track record for these type of dirty hits.

Adams, who was carted off the field and hospitalized, is in the concussion protocol, says Packers head coach Mike McCarthy.

The hit also cost Trevathan $235,294 worth of game checks. Trevathan has until Wednesday to appeal the punishment, the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs reported.

The Bears’ next two games are against the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 9 and against the Ravens on Oct. 15 in Baltimore.
