Worst onside kick ever: Steelers kicker botches attempt

There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,300 plays on an average NFL Sunday, and 1,299 of them are completely beyond the average American’s physical ability to execute. Here’s the one that wasn’t.

With less than a minute remaining in the Baltimore-Pittsburgh rivalry game, returning Steeler QB Ben Roethlisberger dove into the end zone with all the grace of a china cabinet tipping over. The Steelers then lined up for an onside kick.

Steelers kicker Chris Boswell tried to pull off a rabona — a soccer move where you kick behind your planted leg — and, well, it was horrendous. He topped the ball, basically only knocking it off the tee, and then kicked the ball 30 yards downfield in frustration. But that’s a penalty, and that was the effective end of the game.

On a day in which the Steelers lost to Baltimore 21-14 and did nothing right, it’s only fitting that they saved their most horrendous play for last.
