This hit was so hard, a Bears running back's helmet decal was knocked clear off

There are a million ways to measure big hits. But we’re pretty sure we’ve never judged one by whether a player’s decal was dislodged from his helmet.

Times are changing. Watch in the video above as Green Bay Packers linebacker Joe Thomas smashes — helmet to helmet, by the way — Chicago Bears running back Ka’Deem Carey.

First things first: The dangerous hit should have been a penalty. None was called and it went as a 1-yard gain for Carey.

That also probably speaks to how cold it was at Soldier Field. Kickoff temperature was 9 degrees, and it dropped below zero after that. That decal glue is strong stuff, but the cold won the battle Sunday. Here’s a good indication how cold it was.

But to us, the sight of a flying “C” moving in slow motion across the field is the star from this game and has some serious .gif potential, for all you tech-savvy folks out there.
