Serbian striker misses open goal from less than two yards

There are plenty of ridiculous open goal misses floating around on YouTube, but this one might just top them all.

The latest crime against accuracy takes place in the unglamorous confines of Serbia’s fourth division, during FK Lokomotiva’s match with FK Turbina Vreoci.

A Lokomotiv striker identified by The Guardian as Djuricic pounces on a very poor back-pass and finds himself skipping past the goalkeeper, with nothing between the ball and the net. A goal looks like a near certainty as he dribbles to within less than two yards of the goal line. A gentle nudge of the ball is all that is required to guarantee glory.

Incredibly, he manages to put his left foot under the ball to send it high over the crossbar.

In some ways, he deserves credit: from that distance, it would be much harder to miss than to score. Thankfully, Djuricic’s blushes were saved when Lokomotiva eventually emerged as 2-1 winners, but it will be quite a while before he lives this episode down.
