Prized QB recruit Malik Henry leaving Florida State after one season
After just one season, Malik Henry is leaving Florida State.
Henry, one of the top quarterbacks in the 2016 recruiting class, released a statement to 247Sports.com announcing the decision.
“I have decided to transfer from Florida State University. I want to thank Coach Fisher and his staff for giving me the opportunity to be a student athlete at FSU,” the statement said. “I wish him and the team nothing but success. At this time I don’t know what university I will be attending in the future.”

Henry, a native of Long Beach, California, was rated by Rivals.com as the second-best dual-threat quarterback and No. 34 overall prospect in the 2016 class. He arrived at Florida State in January as an early enrollee and impressed in the spring game by completing 15-of-22 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns.
Henry was suspended for violating team rules in August and reinstated a month later. He redshirted the season as redshirt freshman Deondre Francois flourished and senior Sean Maguire and redshirt sophomore J.J. Cosentino served in the No. 2 and No. 3 roles, respectively.
With Henry out of the picture and Maguire’s eligibility expiring, the Seminoles have just Francois and Cosentino as scholarship quarterbacks for spring practice. The team also has verbal commitments from quarterbacks James Blackman, a four-star recruit, and Bailey Hockman, a three-star recruit, in its 2017 class.

The 11th-ranked Seminoles will face No. 6 Michigan in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30.
