Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looked a little too casual at the CAF awards ceremony

Mane and Mahrez were dressed for success. As for Auba …

One of these footballers is not like the others.

Ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, which begins on Saturday, the CAF held its annual awards in Abuja, Nigeria. The region’s biggest stars were dressed in their finest tops and tails for the event, with the exception of one man: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

As he took to the stage alongside Riyad Mahrez and Sadio Mane – his fellow shortlisted nominees for African Player of the Year – the Borussia Dortmund star was wearing a diamante-studded baseball cap and t-shirt with sweatpants. He looked like he was going for dinner at Chili’s, rather than preparing to receive a prestigious award.

However, the Bundesliga leading scorer had a reasonably good excuse for breaching the dress code: the airline lost his baggage.

The 27-year-old took to Instagram to sarcastically thank the offending airline that had misplaced his bags (which presumably included his formal wear).

While it’s safe to assume that Auba didn’t have time to swing by the 24-hour tuxedo store on his way from the airport to the venue, he might have attempted to smarten his appearance by at least borrowing a jacket to go on stage. Or maybe by removing his baseball cap. Just a thought.

Aubameyang ultimately lost the award to Mahrez, and he can’t even claim to be the worst-dressed soccer star at an award ceremony in the past week. That honor fell to Dani Alves, who went with a “disco matador biker” look at Monday’s Best FIFA Football Awards.
