Philadelphia Eagles 53-man roster projection

With roster cuts looming, here is my first 53-man roster projection. Kind in mind, I also listed the players in the respected spots on the depth chart.

QB: Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel, Carson Wentz (3)

Everyone knows these are the three quarterbacks on the roster and this is how the depth chart will go.

RB: Ryan Mathews, Kenjon Barner, Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood (4) {7}

What is different here is the depth chart. I believe the Eagles are very high on Barner. With his stellar preseason performances, I think he will be the second running back on the depth chart. He has worked very hard this offseason and his efforts have paid off. This group is going to lead this offense. Expect the Eagles to lean on the running game a lot this season.

WR: Nelson Agholor, Dorial Green-Beckham, SLOT Jordan Matthews, Josh Huff, Chris Givens, Rueben Randle (6) {13}

The Eagles had the intentions of starting DGB once they traded for him. I think along with him, Nelson Agholor gets the starting jobs outside. Jordan Matthews will be in the slot as usual. Also, I think the veterans get their chance to prove themselves this season. Josh Huff, Rueben Randle, and Chris Givens are all on short leashes. UDFA Paul Turner will be on the practice squad ready to pounce if an opportunity arises.

TE: Brent Celek, Zach Ertz, Trey Burton (3) {16}

The Eagles are going to run a three tight end set often. These are the three tight ends who are the most impressive. I expect Burton to occasionally line up at full-back as well. This is arguably the best group on the offensive side of the ball. These guys are going to be used in the passing game often.

OL: Jason Peters, Isaac Seumalo, Jason Kelce, Brandon Brooks, Allen Barbre, Matt Tobin, Andrew Gardner, Stefan Wisniewski, Halapoulivaati Vaitai (10) {26}

We all know by now the starting line will be Jason Peters, Isaac Seumalo, Jason Kelce, Brandon Brooks and Allen Barbre. I choose to keep Andrew Gardner, Matt Tobin, Stefan Wisniewski, and Halapoulivaati Vaitai as the depth because I feel the Eagles have a lot of faith in those depth players. However, I do think they need a lot of work. They have not looked too great in the preseason.

DL: Connor Barwin, Fletcher Cox, Bennie Logan, Brandon Graham, Vinny Curry, Beau Allen,Destiny Vaeao, Marcus Smith (8) {34}

The Eagles defensive line is all around their best position group. I think Connor Barwin, Brandon Graham, Vinny Curry, and Marcus Smith, will heavily rotate at the defensive end position. This could be Smith’s last chance to prove himself. Also, I do not expect Fletcher Cox and Bennie Logan to come out of the game often, but when they do, Beau Allen and Destiny Vaeao are viable options off the bench.

LB: Jordan Hicks, Stephen Tulloch, Nigel Bradham, Mychal Kendricks, Najee Goode, Bryan Braman (6) {40}

Newly required Stephen Tulloch will start at MLB for the Eagles. Taking up the other two positions will be Jordan Hicks and Nigel Bradham. Acquiring Tulloch is a great move because now the Eagles have great depth, and a player like Mychal Kendricks will be coming in off the bench.

CB: Leodis McKelvin, Nolan Carroll, Ron Brooks, Eric Rowe, Jalen Mills, Aaron Grymes (6) {46}

I think this group has been set in stone for a while. However, camp standout Aaron Grymes does make the roster as the sixth corner. Also, I do think Eric Rowe has been impressive and he earned his spot back. Rowe is now the first corner coming in off the bench in front of Jalen Mills and Grymes.

S: Malcolm Jenkins, Rodney McLeod, Jaylen Watkins, Chris Maragos (4) {50}

I expect Malcolm Jenkins to be used as a nickel corner as well this year. Lucky for the Eagles, Jaylen Watkins has been very impressive so far. He can sub in for Jenkins when he is used as a nickel corner. In fact, Watkins has been PFF’s number one safety this preseason thus far. However, the duo of Jenkins and McLeod can be the best in the league.

K: Caleb Sturgis (1) {51}

Sturgis has been miles better than Parkey thus far in preseason. He beats Parkey in the kicking competition and wins the starting job.

P: Donnie Jones (1) {52}

There is no other punter on the roster, so there is no shock here. Donnie Jones has been a very consistent punter in the league and I do not expect anything to change.

LS: Jon Dorenbos (1) {53}

Magic Man Jon Dorenbos keeps his position. He is just a player who the Eagles cannot cut.

Practice Squad: Paul Turner, Quentin Gause, Steven Means, Ed Reynolds, Alex McCalister, Myke Tavarres, Dillon Gordon, Byron Marshall, Denzel Rice, CJ Smith`
