Nasty fight breaks out in UNLV-Utah State women's game (Video)

It’s been quite the day of violence in college basketball. Coaches and players from Missouri and Georgia got caught up in a scuffle early in the afternoon. Later on, Oregon’s Dillon Brooks kicked an opposing player in the groin.

But this … this might be the worst of all. It certainly looks like the most violent. Punches were thrown and benches cleared in the third quarter of Utah State’s game at UNLV:

The whole scene, which is somewhere between scuffle and melee, led to eight ejections, four from each team, and surely will lead to suspensions.

This, first and foremost, is not something to joke about. This is a legitimate fight. UNLV’s Katie Powell intentionally bumps Utah State’s Antoina Robinson, and then things take off. Robinson shoves Powell, the two go at each other, and it looks like both throw fists before falling toward the corner of the court.

Another terrible aspect of this: It occurred on Kids Day at UNLV.

But allow us to direct your attention to the UNLV bench. UNLV coach Kathy Olivier is the first to sprint toward the pile. But right behind her, one of UNLV’s players — the one in the gray warmup shirt — can’t put any weight on her right leg, presumably due to injury. Yet she hops all the way across the court on her left foot to get involved in the brawl.

Then, flying in from the other end comes a Utah State coach in (very) high heels.

Fortunately, it looks like the fight was broken up pretty quickly.

It’s unclear who won the fight. But as the saying goes, UNLV won the war, 55-53 in overtime.
