The Miami Dolphins have moved their pre-season game against the Atlanta Falcons to Orlando’s Citrus Bowl. While the move has nothing to do with the current construction at New Miami Stadium, the move could be a sign of things to come for the Miami Dolphins.

With the NFL’s current model of having teams play home games outside of their home stadiums, this pre-season game in Orlando could be a sign for the future. With Orlando almost a midpoint for the Dolphins and Jaguars while also being only an hour east of Tampa, Orlando could be getting some regular season NFL action pretty soon.

While the Jaguars have almost become the London Jaguars due to the amount of games that they play in England, the Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers could use Orlando as their home away from home. For the Miami Dolphins and their fans, this could be great news.

Why great news? Well, while many NFL teams have their home away from home in some other country or some place across the country, Miami’s would be in the heart of their home state. Orlando would also allow the Dolphins to expand their fanbase within the state and around the world.

Home to both two Universal owned theme parks and the four Disney World parks, Orlando is one of the biggest tourist cities in the world. Adding a regular season home game in this city would give Miami a chance to expand their product around the world with the potential amount of tourists that could witness the game.

The Dolphins use of Orlando would also benefit their current fanbase in many ways. With some of the teams fans living to the more northern part of the state, a potential regular season game in Orlando would give them a much closer opportunity to see their beloved Miami Dolphins.

Overall, there are almost no negatives for this type of move for the Miami Dolphins. It would give the team an opportunity to both expand their fanbase while also give their current fans a close place to see them play rather than have the team travel to Mexico or England. Hopefully this continues to develop into something more to not only serve current Dolphins fans, but future ones as well.
