Marc-Andre Fleury makes save of the year candidate vs. Devils (Video)

Marc-Andre Fleury made a save-of-the-year candidate in an unlikely spot.

He entered the Pittsburgh Penguins’ game against the Devils on Tuesday having only won once in his last nine appearances in New Jersey. So the Penguins gave him plenty of support, especially on a penalty kill that held the Devils without a shot for significant stretches in their 5-2 win.

But when the Penguins needed him, Fleury was there in a big way, keeping the puck out by any means necessary. And in this highlight reel case, but using his stick as a tennis racquet to volley the puck over the net.

Adam Henrique’s shot was deflected in front of Fleury, who stood up and scrambled back after seeing the puck fly in the air. He desperately reached back with his paddle and swatted it away before it could float down into the net.

That’s some impressive body control for a guy wearing some rather encumbering gear.

Fleury made 23 saves and doesn’t have a regulation loss in his last five starts (4-0-1).
