Neftekhimik narrowly defeated Traktor in KHL action on Saturday, with the game decided by a lone goal, which was capped off with a celebration we all remember.

Near the end of the second period, Neftekhimik forward Richard Gynge backhanded home a rebound and proceeded to channel his inner Teemu Selanne.

Gynge, who was named the KHL’s best forward in December after a 9-3–12 month, decided against the full machine gun celebration like Selanne, instead went for more of a hunting one.

It was 24 years ago this March that Selanne broke Mike Bossy’s record for goals by a rookie with his 53rd, which the “Finnish Flash” then proceeded to celebrate by tossing his glove up in the air and shooting it down.

If Alex Ovechkin got pushback for his hot stick celebration in 2009, imagine what a rookie Selanne or a veteran like Gynge would receive had this be done in today’s NHL. If smiling Tomas Hertl made some hockey people peeved, the shooting celebration would cause heads to explode.
