If you’re an Olympic athlete of any renown, there’s a good chance you’re spending half your time in Rio taking selfies with other lesser-known athletes. Indeed, a brief glance at Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat shows any numbers of pictures hastily taken with athletes like Serena Williams, Michael Phelps, Rafa Nadal or Kevin Durant. (This guy didn’t even bother to ask Pau Gasol to turn around.)

One would assume that most athletes are gracious about borrowing a few seconds of a star’s time. Irish boxer (and flag bearer) Paddy Barnes, however, didn’t act very cool after snapping a picture with Danish tennis star (and flag bearer) Caroline Wozniacki down in Rio.

The light flyweight and two-time bronze medalist tagged both Wozniacki and her ex-fiance, golfer Rory McIlroy, while posting the picture to Twitter.

“Hey @CaroWozniacki I think we make a great couple,” Barnes tweeted. “What ya think @McIlroyRory.”

McIlroy and Wozniacki, of course, had a very public breakup in 2014 after becoming engaged and even sending out invitations to their wedding. Wozniacki later said that McIlroy broke up with her during a 10-minute phone call and that she never saw or heard from him again.

Barnes later said on Twitter that he was “just having fun” with McIlroy and FTW pointed out that Barnes has previously made fun of McIlroy for ducking out of the golf competition in Rio at the last minute.

All of that ignores the fact that Wozniacki was gracious with her time and Barnes thanked her by posting the picture under a totally different pretense than which it was taken.

Barnes, who does own a certain degree of fame in boxing circles and his home country, also took selfies with Serena Williams and Rickie Fowler.

Luckily for them, he didn’t add any unnecessary commentary about their exes or old flames.
