Gold-winning U.S. water polo team gives medals to coach in touching gesture

The U.S. women’s water polo team handily defeated Italy 12-5 Friday to win its second-straight gold medal, but the road to victory was anything but smooth.
Just two days before the Opening Ceremony, coach Adam Krikorian’s brother died unexpectedly in Southern California. Krikorian briefly left the team to be with his family before returning for the Americans’ first game.

To put it lightly, this Olympic experience has been incredibly tough for Krikorian, who acknowledged as much earlier in the tournament.
Friday, when the Americans won gold, Krikorian’s players decided to give back to their coach, and each hung their gold medals around his neck.
