Frustrated Todd Gurley dismisses Rams as having a 'middle-school offense'

Things are getting really, really bad (or maybe worse) for the Los Angeles Rams, who now have lost eight of nine games and have been miserable offensively. Any hope that the switch to No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff at quarterback might spark the offense has been quashed with three straight blowout losses, including Sunday’s setback to the Atlanta Falcons.

So how bad is it? Starting running back Todd Gurley, who has had a frustrating season after a breakout rookie year, said the Rams “looked like a middle-school offense out there.”

The Rams committed five turnovers Sunday and have been outscored 89-24 over their past 10 quarters. The loss to the Falcons was plagued by six first-half penalties, three straight three-and-outs, a pick-six and zero points until the team was down 42-0. The Rams now rank dead last in the NFL in yards, first downs and points per game.

Those numbers are so bad, Gurley’s comment might be an insult to middle-school offenses.

In the video above, Gurley appeared angry on the sideline after another offensive failure. After the game, he also was asked how to fix things. He really (times seven) seems to have no clue.

The Goff trade will cost them their first-round pick in the spring, and every unit offensively needs big work. Additionally, there’s no evidence that the offensive coaches have any clue how to clean up this mess, which Gurley’s comment surely hinted at. Oh, and there may or may not be infighting between the head coach, Jeff Fisher, and the general manager.

Welcome to Los Angeles, Rams. They’re 4-9 and will need to run the table to turn in the Fisher-patented 7-9 season he bemoaned during “Hard Knocks.” Yeah, Todd, we really, really, really, really, really, really, really agree with your assessment.
