Cleveland Browns training camp will officially begin today, what are some of the biggest storylines headed into camp? Here are our top five.

It is finally here, Cleveland Browns training camp has arrived. There are certainly a lot of questions surrounding this team that will finally get answered in the coming weeks. The Browns had a fairly busy week overall, so let’s get to the top storylines that happened this week heading into camp.

Armonty Bryant could be facing additional penalty

We got some great news hearing that Josh Gordon will be back this season after a four game ban, but we also got some bad news regarding Armonty Bryant. According to Evan McDonald of Cleveland.com, Bryant pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drug possession charge stemming from Christmas day of last year. Bryant faces a 180-day suspended jail sentence, and 68-days on probation, which will end on the same day as Bryant’s current four game suspension from the league ends. Now that Bryant has plead guilty, the league could suspend Bryant for an even longer amount of time if they so choose for violating the leagues personal conduct policy. Hopefully no additional penalty stems from this, and the Browns get their talented pass rusher back for week five.

Browns to name a starting quarterback before the first preseason game

In a little pre-camp press conference with Hue Jackson yesterday, we found out that he does not plan to drag this quarterback competition out. Jackson, according to Andrew Gribble of Clevelandbrowns.com, said that he plans to name a quarterback before the first preseason game against Green Bay, saying it was the “right thing to do”. This is no surprise that Jackson wants a quick non controversial competition, it also probably won’t be a surprise who wins the job either. Robert Griffin III has taken most of the first team reps, and even though it has been reported that he has struggled at times, Jackson has gone out of his way to praise him. It is just a matter of time until Griffin III is named the starting quarterback this year.

Gordon makes his first comments

Finally back on a Cleveland Browns football field draped in Cleveland Browns gear, Josh Gordon met with reporters for the first time this year. Gordon was thankful to the Browns organization for all the support they have had for him, and made it clear that there is nothing he can change from a podium, and he would have to prove it on the field. Gordon noted that he has been a “selfish player” in the past, but sees himself as a “different person” now. Gordon will have his locker right next to former Baylor teammate Robert Griffin III in 2016. Gordon said that Griffin III is one of his best friends and is a major part of his support system. you can see the whole video of Gordon meeting with reporters on Clevelandbrowns.com.

Joe Haden is nearing a return

Even though Joe Haden will begin the season on the PUP list, he is still said to be nearing a return. In a press conference, Coach Jackson told reporters that Haden was “very close” to being at 100%. Haden will be a major piece for the Browns in 2016 after having a down year in 2015. For the first time in Haden’s career he seemed a bit down for most of last season. There is some major speculation that Haden had some issues with former head coach Mike Pettine and former defensive coordinator Jim O’Neil, which may have contributed to his struggles. Haden seems revitalized with the new regime in place and is ready to get back to work.

Desmond Bryant officially ruled out for 2016

No surprise here, but it is now official. Dan Labbe of Cleveland.com reported that the Browns have added Desmond Bryant to the injured reserved list. Any hopes that Bryant or fans had of a late return in the 2016 season were dashed with this move.

It would have made no sense for the Browns to not make this move. As long as Bryant was “active” on the roster he would be taking up a spot. This move allows Cleveland to move forward for 2016, and it also allows Bryant to have an opportunity to focus on his recovery without rushing back.
