Broncos have plenty of cap space heading into offseason

The Denver Broncos didn’t have as much salary cap space as they would have liked in 2015. It forced Peyton Manning to take a pay cut, one in which the Sheriff nearly left Denver altogether.

They couldn’t keep one of his favorite weapons in Julius Thomas and opted to move on from Wes Welker. The team had to settle for the cheaper Owen Daniels at the tight end position.

Last offseason, John Elway couldn’t come to terms on an agreement with Brock Osweiler. He didn’t have enough salary cap space to rebuild the offensive line, because all the money had to go to re-signing franchise superstar Von Miller.

But 2017 promises to be an easier offseason for Elway, who will get just over $38.4 in cap space, per Spotrac.com. (A shoutout to Broncoswire for being on this first.)

This comes at an opportune time for Elway, who has more holes all over the roster to fill than recent years. This team needs a veteran quarterback to push Trevor Siemian and/or Paxton Lynch. They need a brand new offensive line and another run-stopper on the otherwise stout defensive line.

They desperately need another pass-catcher, as nobody else can show up and bail out Demaryius Thomas or Emmanuel Sanders. Elway better prepare to start building a brand new offense with his salary cap space.

With so much salary cap space, there’s no reason for Elway to sit back. Then again, he tends to be one of the most aggressive when it comes to the offseason.
