Broken-down DJ surprised to find out Derek Carr was driving him to get gasoline

We always like to tout the good deeds of NFL players, and when the story is amusing it makes it all the better.

A Bay Area DJ/music producer named Ron Reeser ran out of gas and was stuck on the side of the road in Dublin, Calif., according to All22.com. Ready to make the long walk to the nearest gas station, Reeser saw a black SUV approach and a young man get out. He offered to drive Reeser himself.

Nice gesture. Reeser just thought it was a good dude who felt bad for him. They got to chatting. Turns out that dude was pretty famous. But Reeser had no idea who was driving him at first.

“He said he was a quarterback; I thought he was a college quarterback,” Reeser told the website. “I asked him what string he was. He said ‘first string.’ I asked him his favorite team. He said, ‘I may be biased, but the Raiders because I play for them.’ I looked at him and said, ‘Wait’ … and I asked him his name. He said ‘Derek Carr.’”

As in, MVP candidate Derek Carr. No big deal.

“He couldn’t have been more down-to-earth,” Reese said. “He was wearing a hat and basketball shorts. I had no idea. He was just driving by and helped. It really made me feel good that there are good people still out there doing nice things for people.”

They hit it off, exchanged numbers and plan to keep in touch. Cool story. But check out the proof of how engaging Carr really must be.

“I’ve grown up a Niners fan,” Reeser said. “But the last year was pretty tough, and after my experience with Derek, I just may become a Raiders fan now.”

And for Carr, this is par for the course, apparently. In January — just a few weeks after suffering a season-ending injury and watching his team flame out in the playoffs without him — Carr helped police locate a missing child by staying woke on social media.

Is there anything Carr can’t do? A very good football player apparently has powers we previously were unaware of. Good stuff.
