Anthony Rizzo is crushing more than just baseballs these days

In February, Anthony Rizzo revealed his intentions to take piano lessons this year in hopes of someday being good enough to join his more musically inclined teammates to play together.

Forgive us if we lost track of that tidbit while Rizzo was out there crushing baseballs, racking up awards (Gold Glove, Silver Slugger and a fourth place finish in MVP voting), and helping the Cubs win their first World Series since 1908. But we dare say we won’t overlook it again. Not after Rizzo posted the following video on Instagram showing him crushing a remix of Coldplay’s hit “The Scientist.”

If case you’re wondering, that Rizzo’s father, John Rizzo accompanying him on drums.

Here’s more of what Rizzo had to say about his musical goals during spring training.

“Hopefully I can step up with my piano skills, maybe some vocals, and we can put this thing together,” Rizzo said. “It’s very frustrating because you look at people who are so skilled, and I’m like, ‘Wow, I’ll never get there.’ I just have to keep practicing and keep playing to get better.”

For what it’s worth, Rizzo’s vocal skills are coming along too.

OK, so maybe not as fast as his piano playing, but there’s potential there.

Of course, no one will be asking Rizzo to quit his day job anytime soon. Not when he just so happens to be one of the very best at the job at the highest level. But options are a good thing to have. And so is fun, which is what this Cubs team is all about.
