Angels teammates accomplish feat not seen since 1936
Baseball is a funny game sometimes.
On Friday, the Los Angeles Angels were left frustrated after their ninth-inning rally in Boston came up inches short…. literally. On Saturday, they left nothing to chance as they stampeded the Red Sox by the score of 21-2.
That’s a beatdown unlike any we’ve seen in MLB this season. The Angels 21 runs were a league-high, as was their 19-run margin of victory. It was also the first time the Angels scored 20 or more runs since 2004.
Naturally, when a team breaks out for 21 runs on a season-high 22 hits, that means a lot of guys had really productive games. In this instance, two Angels teammates stood out by combining to do something not seen in MLB since 1936.
And we’ll give you this hint: Neither of them were named Mike Trout.
No, it was the duo C.J. Cron and Carlos Perez who combined to make history. Cron finished the game 6-for-6 with two home runs, six RBIs and five runs scored. Perez went 5-for-6 with a home run and five RBIs of his own, which put together made them the most productive teammates in a single game in 80 years.

In a funny aside, Cron and Perez were a combined 11-for-11 until the ninth inning when Perez was retired by outfielder Ryan LaMarre, who entered as Boston’s mop up man.
In another interesting footnote, LaMarre was the only one of Boston’s five pitchers to not allow a run.

Baseball is just weird like that sometimes.
The Angels did most of their collective damage during an 11-run seventh inning rally. That inning equaled the amount of runs they’d score in the four-game losing streak they snapped on Saturday. Cron and Perez each had two hits, including a two-run homer apiece, during that rally.
We should also acknowledge Albert Pujols. The veteran slugger homered, doubled and drove in five runs during the game before earning a breather. Mike Trout finished 2-for-5 with three runs.
And all the while, Matt Shoemaker — the Angels scheduled starter on Sunday — internally screamed “save some for me, fellas!”
