The charges against LSU defensive lineman Davon Godchaux in connection with a domestic abuse case involving him and his girlfriend have been dropped. Hillar Moore, the district attorney for East Baton Rouge Parish, announced the decision Tuesday afternoon.

Godchaux was arrested early Monday morning and charged with false imprisonment and domestic abuse battery/child endangerment. His girlfriend also was arrested because of conflicting stories. According to the girlfriend, Godchaux grabbed her and tossed her backward twice. She had a swollen lip and a red mark near her neck, according to a police report. The girlfriend also said Godchaux refused to let her leave with the couple’s 10-month-old child.

He was indefinitely suspended following the arrest and did not practice Monday or Tuesday. LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron said Wednesday that Godchaux would be rejoining the team later that day.

Godchaux said there was no altercation and that he asked the woman to leave following an argument regarding another woman. He said the girlfriend refused to leave the apartment because she was so upset.

Moore said charges were dropped because of the conflicting stories and insufficient evidence at the scene.

Godchaux, 21, is a three-year starter, including all four games this season. He has started 26 games during his career and has 103 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks in 29 total games.
