NBA betting: Jazz's second-half comeback dooms bettor's $900K wager on Clippers in Game 1

Utah's huge second half meant someone lost nearly $1 million on the Clippers on Tuesday night.

A bettor at BetMGM placed a $900,000 wager on Los Angeles to win Game 1 of its second-round series with the Jazz. And that bet looked good early as Utah shot a brutal 18% from the field in the first quarter.

The bet was on the Clippers to win straight up. With the Jazz favored entering the game, the moneyline bet could have turned into nearly $1.1 million.

The good vibes of that first quarter didn't last too long. Utah stormed back to tie the game in the third quarter by outscoring the Clippers 32-19. The Jazz then had three more points than the Clippers in the fourth quarter to win the game 112-109 and take the first game of the series.

The Jazz's comeback was led by Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell was one of the many Jazz players who got off to a rough start. But he bounced back in a big way in the second half. Mitchell finished the game with 45 points and was 11-of-16 from the field over the final two quarters. Thirty-two of Mitchell's points came in the final 24 minutes as he shot 4-of-7 from behind the arc and iced the game with a layup with 1:19 to go.

Not long after the game ended, the Jazz's social media team made sure to highlight how much that Clippers bettor lost.

And we're not trying to add insult to injury, but that bettor should have simply gone with the Clippers against the spread about 30 minutes before the game. The Clippers were getting three points from the Jazz until the the line moved down to 2.5 points about 30 minutes before tipoff. Had the bettor taken the Clips +3, he or she could have at least gotten his or her money back after the game instead of seeing it all go to the book.
