Marcus Peters: 'I shouldn't have reacted like that' in heated confrontation with fan during Eagles loss

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Marcus Peters has repeatedly downplayed the incident where he confronted a fan on Sunday night during L.A.’s 30-23 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Los Angeles.

Wednesday was no different — and he’s ready to move on.

Peters can be seen in a video posted to Twitter confronting a fan in the third quarter of the game, and later had to be pulled back to the bench by safety John Johnson III and security guards. He said after the game that he was “just makin’ a little bit of fun.”

While he again downplayed the severity of the incident, he did say that he shouldn’t have reacted the way he did when he heard the fan talking to him from the stands.

“It was just fan and player interaction,” Peters told ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry on Wednesday. “I mean sometimes it’s a thin line between just people being disrespectful and then certain things happen. And I’m just the type of person that reacts to things like that. I shouldn’t have reacted like that, it was in the middle of the third quarter too, so things like that just happen, but I didn’t mean anything by it.

“I mean perception says that it was Marcus Peters acting up again, but it’s whatever to me. Talked to coach about it and we move on.”

Peters has been a solid defensive asset for the Rams this season. He had five total tackles in the loss on Sunday, and has 40 total on the season, his first in Los Angeles. He also has three interceptions, one of which he ran back for a touchdown.

The Rams, though, have slid in recent weeks. They’re currently on a two-game skid, and are now one game behind the New Orleans Saints for the top seed in the NFC playoffs. They’re also now at risk of losing the first-round bye to the Chicago Bears, who hold the tiebreaker after their 15-6 win over the Rams two weeks ago.
