Malik Hooker robs Philip Rivers with 1-handed end zone interception, and it's a doozy

Week 1 of the NFL season presented a strong candidate for interception of the year.

With the Los Angeles Chargers threatening to take a two-score lead late in the fourth quarter, quarterback Philip Rivers looked to Keenan Allen in the back of the end zone on second-and goal-from the seven-yard line.

Hooker with the 1-handed snag

Malik Hooker had other ideas. The Indianapolis Colts safety swooped in from zone coverage in the middle of the end zone to thwart the scoring attempt with in interception.

And it was a one-handed beauty.

Pick sets up game-tying score

Hooker returned the interception to the 20-yard line in a play that kept the Colts’ hopes of a Week 1 road upset alive.

Indianapolis marched on the ensuing possession for an 80-yard touchdown drive capped by a 19-yard T.Y. Hilton catch and run from Jacoby Brissett that left 38 seconds on the game clock.

Marlon Mack converted the two-point conversion to force the game into overtime.

Colts fall short in OT

The Colts couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity in overtime, as the Chargers converted the opening drive into a seven-yard Austin Ekeler touchdown run to secure a 30-24 victory.
