Report: Los Angeles to host 2028 Summer Olympics

The International Olympic Committee is expected to announce on Monday that Los Angeles will host the 2028 Olympics and Paris will host the 2024 Games, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The decision comes a full month earlier than expected, as the IOC was expected to announce the 2024 host at the annual meeting in September.

Both L.A. and Paris submitted bids for the 2024 Games and became the final two cities in contention to host those Summer Olympics. In a rare decision, the IOC unanimously approved a measure in July to announce the 2024 and 2028 hosts at the same time. However, The Los Angeles Times reported Monday morning that Los Angeles reps reached an agreement with the International Olympic Committee to accept the 2028 Olympics and offer Paris the 2024 Games.

Paris last hosted the Olympics in 1924, meaning that the 2024 Games will be a centennial celebration for the French city. L.A. previously hosted the Games in 1932 and 1984.

Earlier reports indicated that L.A. was more open to 2028, creating speculation and assumptions that the Southern California city would end up with the Olympics in the end.
