Kyrie Irving has company: Welcome Sammy Watkins to the Flat Earth Society
Arguing Earth is not round seems like a weird battle to fight in 2017, but a few people have bought in.
Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving (still strange to say that “Boston Celtics” before his name) believes Earth is flat. And apparently so too does Los Angeles Rams receiver Sammy Watkins.

This is from Los Angeles Times reporter Lindsey Thiry:
Rams receiver Sammy Watkins is among those who believe the earth is flat.
— Lindsey Thiry (@LindseyThiry) September 20, 2017
Thiry posted a video later explaining how the topic came about. She asked him about his targets, after the interview other “philosophical” topics came up.
“I said, ‘Sammy, you’re not one of those guys who thinks the earth is flat, are you?’ And he goes, ‘Well, yeah, I do,'” Thiry said in her video. “I said, ‘Sammy?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I do.’ I said, ‘I’m tweeting this,’ and he said, ‘OK.'”
And so we have a new meme.
Irving has been the subject of many jokes since he revealed he doesn’t think the Earth is round. Watkins will probably get more of the same, and he can probably expect this to be brought up to him many times, like after former Rams defensive end William Hayes said he didn’t think dinosaurs ever existed but mermaids were real.
Let’s hope that when Irving and Watkins are done with their playing careers, they don’t decide to become middle-school science teachers.
