John Cena attended debut of Padres rookie to make good on a $1 motivational bet

San Diego Padres rookie Logan Allen made his MLB debut on Tuesday night, and his family was out in full force to see him. But there was someone else special in attendance to watch Allen: WWE wrestler John Cena.

Cena was there as a friend — the two met by chance at a steakhouse last year and hit it off so well that they didn’t leave until 4 a.m. — but he was also there to pay back a $1 bet the two had made. Here’s Cena himself to explain.

To motivate Allen, Cena bet him $1 that he wouldn’t make the majors. If he did make it, Cena would come to the stadium to personally pay him that dollar. And Cena is a man of his word.

According to Allen, Cena been incredibly supportive of him during the season. In fact, when he found out he was being called up, he got as many excited texts from Cena as he did from his own mother.

Allen pitched masterfully in his debut, allowing three hits and no runs over seven innings. And on Wednesday, when his mind wasn’t so occupied with making his first ever MLB start, Cena finally gave Allen that symbolic yet important dollar that motivated him so much.
