Golfer allegedly attacked by wife over 'poor round'

Former US Open champion Lucas Glover missed the secondary cut at the Players Championship on Saturday following a third-round 78.

Shortly afterward, police were called to his rental property in Ponte Vedra, Florida to investigate a disturbance.

At the house, police from the the St. Johns County Sheriffs Department found Glover and his wife Krista engaged in a loud argument.

According to a police report, Glover said that “every time he plays poorly in a tournament, Krista begins yelling at him, stating he is a ‘loser’ and a ‘p****‘”.

Both Glover, who won the 2009 US Open, and his mother, Hershey Glover, had lacerations on their arms; Krista Glover had no lacerations.

That was sufficient, in the officers’ eyes, to establish probable cause, and the police placed Krista Glover under arrest.

Krista was escorted to the police car but resisted being loaded in, “screaming while forcefully kicking the rear driver’s side door,” according to the police report.

Krista Glover was charged with domestic battery and resisting arrest, misdemeanors that carry a potential one-year sentence apiece.

Glover released a statement on Twitter Tuesday that read: “On May 12, my wife and mother were involved in an argument to which the police were called. Everyone is fine. Regrettably, although Krista was charged, we are comfortable that the judicial system is able to address what actually happened and Krista will be cleared in this private matter. We thank you for respecting our privacy as we work through this unfortunate situation.”
