Golf pro shot, killed at Georgia golf course

A golf pro at a Kennesaw, Georgia, golf club was shot and killed at his course on Saturday.

Cobb County Police reported that the shooting took place around 2:30 p.m. at Pinetree Country Club. The golf pro is identified as Gene Siller.

The Georgia State Golf Association posted a message on social media that read: “All of us at the GSGA are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred early today at Pinetree CC. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gene Siller’s family and friends.”

The Georgia PGA also posted a message on social media:

“Tragedy has stricken the Georgia Section PGA in the loss of our Member, Gene Siller. Thoughts and prayers for his family and the Pinetree Country Club family.”

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that witnesses say that the gunman drove his truck onto the course and got stuck near the 18th green and that Siller was shot after he went to see what was going on.

Atlanta TV station WAGA-TV has a photo that shows the truck parked on the course on a slope between the front of a green and a bunker. WAGA-TV reports that witnesses say Siller was attempting to stop the vehicle.

The golf course is adjacent to Kennesaw University. The school’s men’s and women’s golf teams use the golf course.
