Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron shared a wild recruiting story

Coach Orgeron made an appearance on ‘The Dan Patrick Show’ recently, and seeing as Valentine’s day is right around the corner, Dan Patrick asked Coach O “Who broke your heart?” recruiting-wise. To which Coach Orgeron replied, “Adrian Peterson, man I loved him.”

That response seems normal and expected with how great Peterson was for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Ed Orgeron served as the assistant head coach, defensive line coach, and recruiting coordinator for the Southern California Trojans from 1998 to 2004. One of the top recruits he ever attempted to get to commit to the Trojans was Adrian Peterson.

Adrian Peterson was rated as a five-star prospect and the No. 1 recruit in the nation for the class of 2004, according to 247Sports. Peterson played his high school ball at Palestine high school in Palestine, Texas. Peterson rushed for 2,051 yards and 22 touchdowns during his junior year and he gained 2,960 yards and had 32 touchdowns as a senior.

Now that we’ve got the backstory out of the way, let’s get to the most insane part of this story.

“We go down to see Adrian, me and Pete, and his mother ran track at, I think it was at Houston, wonderful lady,” Orgeron says. “Adrian and I had a great relationship. He loved Pete Carroll, but I felt like he and I were very tight. I asked Adrian, “What is the key to getting you here at USC?

He says, “Coach, well, Bob Stoops, my dad is incarcerated and Bob Stoops went to see him.

“Well me and Pete Carroll tried to go get him and to go see him, but they wouldn’t let us see him. but, Adrian said, “Coach, my dad would be able to watch my games where he’s at if I go to Oklahoma. I tried to get the guy transferred to Los Angeles.

I’m sorry, WHAT!?

Ed Orgeron wanted Adrian Peterson so bad that he tried to get his dad transferred to a jail in Los Angeles. Recruiting is a WILD game.
