Ex-Cowboy Lucky Whitehead attends game, roots for the Cowboys

Lucky Whitehead may not play for the Dallas Cowboys anymore, but that hasn’t hurt his allegiance to the team. Whitehead – who was cut in training camp due to an outstanding warrant following a petty larceny arrest in June, a case that was later deemed mistaken identity – attended the Cowboys’ 33-19 victory over NFC East rival Washington. He also rooted for his old team.

“Those are my guys,” he said, per the Star-Telegram. “I was in Dallas Thursday and had dinner with the defensive line.”

Off the field, Whitehead’s name appeared in the appeal of Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Additionally, he also had to be cleared of charges resulting from a shoplifting incident that cited a case of false identity, though he had already been cut by the Cowboys.

“As far as the whole situation went down, I was blindsided,” Whitehead told SportsDay by phone. “No one [in the Cowboys’ front office] backed me up. No one had my back in the whole situation.

“Let’s not sugarcoat anything. I was pretty much being called a liar.”

Whitehead, 25, was primarily used as a special teams ace during his two seasons with the Cowboys. He suffered a broken foot in August after signing with the New York Jets.
