Dolphins sign former world record-holding sprinter to practice squad
The Miami Dolphins have remained busy, with the goal of improving their roster, despite their bye week occurring in Week 10.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have signed wide receiver Anthony Schwartz to their practice squad.
Schwartz, 23, was among a trio of wideouts that worked out for Miami early last week.
He was a third-round pick of the Cleveland Browns back in 2021 following a collegiate career at Auburn and high-school career at the local American Heritage School.
In 25 NFL games, he’s recorded 14 receptions for 186 yards and a touchdown. He also added 96 rushing yards and a score on the ground along with 21.5 yards per kick return on 15 attempts.
Schwartz’s addition to the roster continues the Dolphins’ goal of adding speed. He was a world-class sprinter before college, as he was part of the gold-medal team in the 4×100 meters relay at the Pan American U20 Championships in 2017 and the World U20 Championships in 2018. He also once held the world record for the fastest 100-meter time under 18 years old.
He didn’t run at the combine, but he did run a 4.27-second 40-yard dash at Auburn’s Pro Day.
Miami’s practice squad was full, so a corresponding move will be announced at some point in the near future.
