Dismissed Louisville DL Chris Williams accused of stealing money from teammates
Louisville coach Bobby Petrino didn’t get into specifics on Monday when announcing that defensive lineman Chris Williams had been dismissed from the program.
Later in the day, we found out the reason.
The Courier-Journal reported Monday night that Williams is facing a felony charge for allegedly stealing money from several teammates back in April. Williams was subsequently arrested in June.

Williams is charged with three counts of theft by deception, according to an arrest citation from University of Louisville Police.
The three victims were teammates Robbie Bell, Tobias Little and Caleb Tillman. Williams is accused of tricking them into giving him their bank account information and taking $2,300 from them, according to the arrest citation. The incident occurred on April 27. Williams was arrested June 23.
Laderius Malik Slaughter, a 21-year-old student from Daytona, Florida, is also charged alongside Williams and is named as the co-defendant in the case.
Petrino told reporters on Monday that Williams was dismissed for violating team rules. The junior college transfer played in 11 games last fall, totaling 29 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and one sack. The defensive tackle was expected to be one of the top backups on the interior of the defensive line for the Cardinals in 2017.
Coming off a 9-4 record in 2016, Louisville opens the 2017 season against Purdue in Indianapolis on Sept. 2.
