Dan Patrick stresses caution regarding Colorado football hype

Colorado football has gone from not being in any conversation to making national headlines on a daily basis. Whether it’s regarding a talented recruit, transfer player or more Deion Sanders buzz, the Buffs are in the national media.

Dan Patrick, a well-regarded sports commentator, offered some interesting takes on the Buffs’ upcoming season with Coach Prime taking the reins (h/t Kevin Borba of Athlon Sports):

“They were terrible last year, They’re not going to be good this year,” Patrick said. “Nobody wants to be a buzzkill going, ‘Yeah, they’re probably going to win two games.’ … I’ve made these mistakes before. You get caught up in the hype. What if (Deion) goes 0-5? And he might. But that doesn’t mean that he won’t be successful.”

Patrick even compared the Sanders hype to the free agency of Odell Beckham Jr., who tore his ACL in the Super Bowl two seasons ago and still had teams going after him at a surprising rate.

Now, the Buffs could stun the world in Coach Prime’s first year, or it could be a total disaster — Patrick is right about that. But, once again, the Buffs are gaining steam in the media, and it’s all because of Sanders.
