Colts sign OT Dennis Kelly, place S Trevor Denbow on IR

The Indianapolis Colts signed offensive tackle Dennis Kelly, placed safety Trevor Denbow on the injured reserve list, and signed cornerback Tony Brown to the practice squad, the team announced Wednesday.

Denbow was seen wearing a boot on his foot Wednesday as the Colts returned to practice following the conclusion of the preseason. General manager Chris Ballard told the media at his press conference that Denbow would hit the injured reserve list.

He doesn’t believe the injury to be serious, but it will keep the undrafted rookie off the field for a while.

“Yeah, we’ll make a corresponding move today. I’ll go ahead and tell you, he’s going to go to IR. We’ll see when he gets back,” Ballard said. “I don’t know exactly the timeframe. I don’t think it’s the whole year, but he’ll go to IR today.”

Bringing back Kelly is a relatively big deal for the Colts. Their initial 53-man roster lacked severe depth at right tackle. They have tried to correct that by claiming Luke Tenuta off waivers from the Buffalo Bills and by signing Kelly.

The veteran Kelly missed almost all of training camp and the entirety of preseason due to a knee injury. He had a procedure done at the start of training camp, but it appears he’s close to returning.

The Colts also brought Brown back to the practice squad. He initially survived the final roster cuts but was released Wednesday when the team claimed Tenuta.

After these moves, the Colts are currently carrying 10 offensive linemen and five cornerbacks on the active roster.
