CBS Sports bowl projections has Florida playing on the west coast
CBS Sports has updated their bowl projections for the 2022 college football postseason, with the Florida Gators projected to play the UCLA Bruins in the Las Vegas Bowl. The game is scheduled to be played on Saturday, Dec. 17 with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST.
The Gators are coming off a disappointing 31-24 loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores. The week before they recorded a 38-6 victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks, confirming bowl eligibility in Billy Napier’s first season as head coach.
The Vanderbilt loss seemed to derail over a month of consistent play for the Gators. Injuries, penalties, and an inability to run the ball on offense all played a part in Florida’s loss to the Commodores. Anthony Richardson’s 400 passing yards were positive, but they came at the expense of the dominant run game that has been tied to the Gators’ offensive identity all year long. Their 45 total rushing yards were the lowest total in any game this season.
UCLA is coming off a 48-45 loss to cross-town rival USC. The loss, paired with their upset loss to Arizona the week before, eliminated them from contention for a berth in the Pac-12 championship game. They are still having a great season. In Chip Kelly’s fifth season, the Bruins are sitting at 8-3, their second consecutive winning season under the former Oregon and NFL coach.
UCLA will end its regular season on Saturday with a trip to Berkeley to take on Cal. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. EST and the game will be broadcast on FOX Sports. Meanwhile, the Gators will play their in-state rival Florida State in a special Black Friday edition of the Sunshine State Showdown with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m EST and the game broadcast on ABC Sports.
