Alabama football enjoys record revenue in 2015
The University of Alabama’s fourth football title in seven years also brought a windfall to the athletic department.
According to the Tuscaloosa News, the football program was able to subsidize the entire athletic department by generating $95,132,301 in revenue. According to Forbes, that’s the most ever by any team in the history of college sports.
Alabama football made a profit of $46,491,330, which was down nearly $7 million, after expenditures of $48,640,971. Part of the decline in profit was because of trips to Dallas and Glendale, Arizona for the College Football Playoff. The program also spent $1,315,030 on recruiting and coach Nick Saban netted $7,969,113, including bonuses, while he and his staff were paid $18,055,483. That total was more than $3 million higher than in 2014.
Gains were made thanks to more than $20 million from the SEC Network, and new broadcasting, radio, and digital rights fees.
The numbers generated by the football program would rank 26th nationally against the total revenue of 350 Division I schools.
