How will Jon Singleton fit into the Houston Astros lineup?

Jon Singleton's arrival means the Astros add another power bat to the lineup. So where does he fit? Here is how the lineup could look for Houston as Singleton makes himself at home in the clean-up spot.

3. Dexter Fowler - The three at the top should be written in ink by Bo Porter now. When Altuve gets on base, the Astros' offense has rolled over since Springer's return to the two spot. Fowler's been an on-base machine at this spot in the lineup, reaching base in all but two games in May.

4. Jon Singleton - This spot in the lineup has been a black hole for the Astros so far this year. The traditional power spot has produced just four home runs and 23 RBIs for the Astros while sporting a .211/.275/.311 average/on-base/slugging line. The Astros have tried nearly everyone on the roster in this spot but nobody claimed it, which is just as well because this is where Singleton belongs. On top of his power numbers, 14 homers and 43 RBIs in 54 games for Oklahoma City, Singleton has drawn 42 walks already this year, so he knows how to take a pitch to get more traffic on the bases for the No. 5 hitter.

5. Matt Dominguez - Dominguez fits here for a number of reasons. He doesn't strike out as much as Chris Carter, he has the best power among the regulars not named Carter and he's a right-handed batter. Bo Porter loves to have batters alternate left-right through the lineup when possible to create matchup problems for opposing managers when it comes time to go to the bullpen. With Fowler at No. 3 followed by Singleton and then Dominguez, a pitcher would only have the matchup advantage in one of the three at bats through the middle of the Astros lineup. Dominguez should benefit from two high on-base hitters ahead of him in the lineup.

6. Jason Castro - Sliding Castro to No. 6 in the lineup continues the left-right pattern that Porter prefers, in addition to giving him a little more rest throughout the season. Batting sixth will cut down on the number of at-bats Castro will have, but he should still see at least as many RBI opportunities he has had while batting higher in the lineup.

7/8. Chris Carter/Robbie Grossman/Alex Presley - This trio will likely fill the next two spots, with the DH batting seventh and the left fielder batting eighth. For the time being, this trio will fill those two positions on the field and the lineup depending on the matchup of the day.
