Eagles GM Howie Roseman: We will take a quarterback with No. 2 pick

The Eagles have moved into the second pick of the draft and they say they will be taking a quarterback when they go on the clock next Thursday.

That quarterback will be Jared Goff or Carson Wentz, but the Eagles don’t have total control over which one falls their way. The Rams traded for the top pick to take a quarterback of their own, leaving Eagles executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman to say at a Wednesday press conference that “the only to make this trade” is to be comfortable with either of the options.

While that might be true, one would think the Eagles are fairly certain about the Rams’ intentions in order to send this year’s third- and fourth-round picks, next year’s first-round pick and a 2018 second-round pick to Cleveland along with the No. 8 pick this year. Roseman indicated that was the case on Wednesday.

“We’re very sure we’re going to get the player we want,” Roseman said.

Indications have been that the Rams are leaning toward taking Goff, which would leave Wentz for the Eagles. There have been reports that the Eagles rate Wentz as the top quarterback in this draft, although Roseman said Wednesday that the two players are like vanilla and chocolate ice cream while declaring himself a fan of both flavors.
